Flexible Instruction Day (FID) Guidelines
Minersville Area Jr/Sr High School
Minersville Area Jr/Sr High School may use a Flexible Instruction Day (FID) when school must close unexpectedly due to weather or an emergency. On a FID, students complete learning activities at home through Blackboard and their school-issued iPads
What is the benefit of a FID?
Using a FID allows the day to count as a regular school day without requiring a make-up day. Pennsylvania allows districts to use up to five FIDs per year.
How will I know when a FID is called?
Families will be notified through:
- FOCUS Communication (Text/Email/Phone Call)
- WNEP/WBRE
- Minersville Athletics Social media
The announcement will clearly state that the day is a Flexible Instruction Day.

Office Hours
Teachers are available by email from 1:01 PM–2:30 PM for any questions or help.
Students are responsible for emailing their teachers if they need support.
Attendance
Attendance is taken based on assignment completion for each scheduled class.
To be marked present, students must submit all required work by the end of the first day back to school.
Students who do not complete the posted assignments will be marked absent for that class.
Students Without Internet or a Device
(Students can access Blackboard through their phone if needed.)
If the FID is planned/anticipated:
Students without internet access may request paper copies ahead of time from their teacher. They will be marked present once the completed work is turned in on the first day back.
If the FID is unexpected:
Paper copies may be requested by students when they return to school, and they will be marked present when the work is completed and submitted the following day.
Students With IEPs
Students with disabilities will have assignments aligned to their IEP accommodations, SDIs, and supports. Teachers will review assignments with students when they return to confirm understanding and provide additional time if required by the IEP.
After-School Activities
Any changes to athletics or after-school programs will be communicated the day of the FID through district messaging systems.
